Crystalens Review

An estimated 10.5 million Americans over the age of 40 have cataracts. Unlike a standard intraocular lens implant, the Bausch & Lomb Crystalens intraocular lens implant gives a fuller, more natural range of vision.

Dr. Hecht performs the Crystalens intraocular lens implant surgery every week for his Marina del Rey, Torrance and Beverly Hills patients. His patients have found new freedom with this innovative intraocular lens implant.

Crystalens review
Dr. Hecht provides thorough Crystalens review

The Crystalens intraocular lens implant replaces patients’ cataracts and provides some amount of flexibility. Many patients can see in the distance as well as some intermediate and near vision due to the flexibility.

The Crystalens intraocular lens implant may allow you to have a more natural range of vision; more likely to provide clearer vision for reading a book, working on the computer, and driving a car than a standard intraocular lens implant, which has no flexibility. In this way, the Crystalens intraocular lens implant attempts to mimic the young human lens inside of the eye and functions more like a natural lens.

Crystalens review:

• The first and only FDA-approved accommodating intraocular lens implant
• Uses the natural focusing ability of the eye
• Only FDA-approved presbyopia correcting IOL for cataract patients that provides a single focal point throughout a continuous range of vision

Further Crystalens Review:

88.4% of patients implanted with a Crystalens could see better at all distances than 35.9% of patients implanted with a standard intraocular lens implant.

Most patients have continued to report excellent vision 7 years after implantation with the Crystalens. More than 200,000 Crystalens intraocular lens implants have been implanted worldwide, and that number is growing daily.

The Crystalens accommodates like the natural lens. After implantation of the Crystalens, most patients will see brighter and clearer across a wider range of distances more like they did when they were younger.

Every patient is different and Dr. Hecht can fully explain the details of your Crystalens procedure. However, the following information may be helpful.

A few questions that people ask about Crystalens:

How long will the surgery take?

The actual surgery itself is usually approximately 15-20 minutes.

Will I feel anything during the surgery?

No. Topical numbing drops will be placed in your eye and oral medications may be administered to help you relax.

When can I return to normal activity?

Typically you will be able to return to normal activities within several days. You should be able to drive and return to work usually within 2-3 days.

After surgery:

Your eyes may be sensitive to the touch for a few days
• Avoid taxing activity that would strain or put pressure on the eye
• Don’t rub your eyes
• Avoid getting soap in your eyes
• Don’t wear eye make-up for several weeks
• Avoid public pools and hot tubs

What should I expect during the recovery period?

Patients vary in their recovery times. Some people take longer for their near vision to come into focus, while others have near vision almost immediately.

How often will I need to have my eyes checked after surgery?

Typically, Dr. Hecht will see you one day after surgery, after 1-4 weeks and again around 3-6 months after surgery. Usually an annual visit is expected.

Will I have to have cataract surgery again?

Once your cataracts are removed and replaced with an IOL, you most likely won’t need to have cataract surgery again. There are other factors to consider and Dr. Hecht can explain all of them during your consultation.
